KEITH MOON coming in 2016

KEITH MOON coming in 2016

WHO ARE YOU? The Life and Death Of Keith Moon.  Jim McCarthy/March 2015   I am re-reading Tony Fletcher’s Dear Boy book, which I originally read about ten or so years ago, when I began writing for Omnibus. I am enjoying it (again) so far. Tony’s book is a 569 page tome and I have exactly 144 pages to attempt to encapsulate Keith’s short, vibrant and troubled life in a condensed manner. I don’t wish to over-sensationalise Keith’s life. To not turn it all into a Moon The Loon-fest, of that I am fully aware. I am starting the book with a couple of riotous pages of Keith playing with The Who at an early gig. After that it fast-forwards to his second to last day on this earth and his attendance with Annette Walter-Lax at the Buddy Holly premiere i Covent Garden, London. The pages will end as he goes to bed that night. It does not reveal his death at the age of 32, that will come at the graphic novel’s coda.   It then examines his hyperactive manner as a child and his early love for music as an avid listener of old 78rpm recordings. The book will attempt to deal with the broad overview of his career, The Who’s early excitement and artistic progression. It will also attempt to inject some salient points about Keith being caught in the grip of addictions, most especially (in my opinion) to alcohol, as perhaps his primary addiction.   Hopefully Tony may write a foreword as it is based on his Dear Boy book. I am to write an...
BOB MARLEY coming in 2016

BOB MARLEY coming in 2016

Wake Up And Live!! The Trenchtown Graphic If life were a thing that only money could buy, the poor would surely die… Bob “Tuff Gong” Marley has transcended even his undoubted achievement as the world’s first and only reggae superstar. He is seen as a saint or deity in his own right. With followers from Jamaica (his birthplace) to the wider Caribbean, Europe, USA, Africa, Central and South America; there is not a place on the globe where he has not achieved iconic status. With his good looks and waist length dreadlocks, signifying his Rastafarian faith and his daily use of marijuana as a Rasta sacrament, Marley inspired a rebel stance all over the world.      ...
Brett Ewins RIP

Brett Ewins RIP

An old friend and comics compadre Brett died suddenly on the 16th February 2015. He was 59 years old and he had not enjoyed the best of health for quite a few years. I grew up in Hanwell with Brett, we lived a few stones throws apart and we also worked on quite a few comics based projects together. The main piece being the original 40 part Bad Company (written by Peter Milligan) and which went on to be one of the most loved, popular and enduring of all the strips to appear in the top selling UK weekly comic 2000AD. I will miss you Brett…...

Reckless Lives: Guns And Roses Graphic book

Reckless Lives: Guns And Roses Graphic book

Guns And Roses, more punk than punk, this band captivated the US rock and roll world with their raw sound and their visceral debut album Appetite For Destruction, which took all before it. Played out against the dysfunctional and abusive background in Lafayette, Indiana of troubled singer and front man Axl Rose, the original band fell together with the inclusion in the classic lineup of Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Steven Adler and Duff McKagan. Featuring stylish line artwork by talented newcomer comic artist Marc Olivent. This is a trade paperback with 144 pages of densely plotted story plus sketchbook, essays and more. To be published by Omnibus Press in autumn...
MODS

MODS

Mods is an upcoming stand alone graphic book which explores the exciting world of the emergent Mod culture. Spike Spellane, Danny Healy, Karl Yelland with Paulette Harrison, and Leslie Milligan all are thrown into a world that they can neither comprehend or are ready to deal with, on any level. The fallout is to have devastating effects on our young band of players. Our main protagonist Spike has the dream to set up a new type of recording studio called MODerne. His aim is to reflect the new musical sound being forged in London at that time. To realize that aim, involves taking a series of risks that will have major consequences. This drama is played out between the time frame of late 1963 through to the late summer of 1964, culminating in massed fighting along the Southern English coast. The book takes in the broad scandalous sweep of the Profumo scandal which rocked the English government to the core and involves a cast of neer-do wells, prostitutes, soul boys, miscreants and all set against the thrilling Mod culture of that volatile time. The book features distinctive, cool full-colour artwork by Mod loving USA comic artist Kevin Cross. This is a trade paperback with 144 pages of densely plotted story plus sketchbook, introductory essays plus cast of characters pages, slang glossary and author essay on mods, clothes and skinheads and more. To be published by Omnibus Press in...
