BAD COMPANY INTERVIEW*** Jim McCarthy for 2000AD

BAD COMPANY INTERVIEW*** Jim McCarthy for 2000AD

Matt Badham Bad Company Interview 14th August 2015   Why is the time right for a return to Bad Company?    Time heals all wounds but not the wounds of Bad Company.    There’s been a change in the line-up creatively after, sadly, Brett Ewins’ passed away? What effect has that had on the art of Bad Company?   Of course it has had an effect on the artwork but Rufus is the perfect person to do the pencils and initial layouts on this strip. It is odd but so many memories for me keep coming back while I am doing the finishes on Rufus’s artworks. After Brett passing on the 17th February earlier this year and meeting Rufus for the first time in a long time at Brett’s funeral in West London on the 11th March 2015, it seemed apt that the strip would rec-occur after this. Pete and Brett and Rufus had spoken a few years back about further delving into the story. I thankfully saw Brett last year (for the last time sadly) at a book signing and that was great to see him in his element if you will. Brett was a very charismatic young man with an abundance of talent. I remember so much of his output, Sometime Stories, Strange Days plus Johnny Nemo, plus loads of 2000AD material, as I was there physically when most of this great work was being originated.   What’s it been like working with Rufus on the strip?    I really like working with Rufus; I have enjoyed seeing his pencils, at times it seems like he...

Rock’s greatest drummer was also its greatest character and wildest party animal. Fuelled by vast quantities of drink, drugs, insecurities and confusion, Moon destroyed everything with gleeful abandon: drum kits, houses, cars, hotels, relationships and, finally, himself. Keith Moon was a totally incorrigible yet uniquely generous boy who never grew up, and who changed the lives of all who knew him; a phenomenal character and an extravagant hell-raiser who – in a final, uncharacteristic act of grace – actually did die before he got old. Who Are You has been created by author Jim McCarthy (Reckless Life: Guns N’Roses, Gabba Gabba Hey The Ramones Graphic Novel, Neverland, Tupac Shakur: Death Rap, Eminem: In My Skin, The Sex Pistols Graphic Novel, Godspeed: The Kurt Cobain Graphic and Voices Of Latin Rock) and artist Marc OLivent (Reckless Life, Dark Satanic Mills, ‘Sundown Crossroads’, ‘Rick Fury’ and...

LIVING FOR KICKS: A Mods Graphic Novel

LIVING FOR KICKS: A Mods Graphic Novel Is out and available from iTunes, Amazon.Com and Amazon.co.uk and as Kindle editions also…. Living for Kicks: A Mods Graphic Novel Jim McCarthy & Kevin Cross Living for Kicks is an electrifying graphic novel that brings the British pop culture of the 1960s to vivid life. It focusses on Spike Spellane, a young Mod trying to hustle enough money to start a record label in London’s sleazy Soho. His adventures are skilfully interwoven with the antics of real-life heroes and villains while the settings are contemporary locations that made the headlines and helped shape a tumultuous decade. Spellane’s story embraces legendary Soho jazz dives, famous gangsters and real music stars. It takes place against the background of the notorious Christine Keeler scandal that rocked the country and almost brought down a government. Real life also provided the setting for the novel’s spectacular climax –the infamous battles between Mods and Rockers staged on the beaches of southern England. Living for Kicks shows and tells exactly what it was like to be a mover and shaker during a unique era of British pop creativity and social...

It is packed with interviews and features with luminaries such as Carlos Santana, Gregg Rolie, Michael Shrieve, new and old members of the Santana band. This e-book is crammed with rare and historic photographs, many never seen before. This writing is the last word on this little-known but culturally importance musical vanguard. It examines the clubs, the racial make-up, the musical influences and the turmoil of this historically valid music. In many cases, the chapters delve into the darker world of heavy drugs and the attendant problems that many of the musicians ran into. All at once, a barrage of musical and artistic riches exploded from the Mission District and across the East Bay in Oakland. Santana led the vanguard of a new Latin rock and soul scene. Sly Stone was happening, Tower Of Power and the Oakland funk situation and the whole East Los Angeles Latino-soul scene was also gestating. Author Jim McCarthy…” The initial success of the Voices Of Latin Rock tome ten years ago, gave me the further impetus to publish this further e-book. Many of these musicians are world-class in attitude and musicality. Some reached the top of the US music tree commercially, some are still active in the business, some less so.
